Valleywise Health Opens New Labor and Delivery Unit

Just hours after the historic move of over 200 patients to the new Valleywise Health Center began on June 13, the first baby was born in the hospital’s new labor and delivery unit.

The facility includes 18 spacious private rooms, with large walk-in bathrooms, lots of natural light, and comfortable sleeping accommodations for loved ones. It’s a sharp contrast from the legacy hospital, where new mothers shared showers and sometimes shared a postpartum room.

“Having a baby is a very special time in people’s lives,” said Dr. Dean Coonrod, Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “Being in such a beautiful, modern space means families can experience this life-changing moment in a comfortable environment with access to the most modern technology and have the space they need to be a family while this is happening."
